The latest news from Todmorden Town Council.
Todmorden Town Council is delighted to invite nominations for the Citizenship Awards 2019.
All those journalists and politicians who ramble on about the UK being a 'divided nation' should pop their way out of whichever bubble they're living in and make their way over to reality, i.e. Todmorden. Despite a near 50:50 split in the referendum, the town is amazingly united. And that's possibly because there's so much going on here.
Last weekend was one of reflection, about the fallen and about peace. The weekend started, though, on Friday 9 November, when members of the Todmorden branch of the Lancashire Fusiliers took a train to Manchester and travelled around laying wreaths at numerous cemeteries before returning in the afternoon to Todmorden, cheerful but tired.
One of the strengths of Todmorden is the cooperation we see between organisations in the town.
There must be a hierarchy of newsworthiness, with climate change at the top and the Mayor’s Parlour firmly at the bottom.
Despite the comment by the Greek poet Alexis c.350BC that committee meetings are a 'victory of the posterior over the mind', it's becoming ever clearer to me that they are essential. So essential, in fact, that the Town Council has decided to promote one mere 'sub-committee' into a fully blown 'standing committee' (Staffing).
