The Todmorden Town Council Citizenship Award is granted to individuals or organisations who have given exceptional service to the township of Todmorden and who have shown true community spirit. This could be working with young people or the elderly, helping those in need, caring for our environment or it could be that they have given time over a number of years to a worthwhile cause.
Each year Citizenship Award nominations are invited from the public and the winning nominations are selected by the Council’s Resources Committee. In 2020 we received four nominations for the Townley and Mattock Family, Healthy Minds Todmorden, Daniel Bath and Stephen Crowther. The decision was taken to grant a Citizenship Award to all four of the nominees for the outstanding services each has provided to Todmorden.
Under normal circumstances the Citizenship Awards are presented to winners in May as part of the Town Council’s annual Mayor Making Day celebration. Held at Todmorden Town Hall this is the day when we officially appoint the Mayor for the coming civic year and say thank you to the outgoing Mayor for their service.
Mayor Making Day is one of the most important days in Todmorden’s civic calendar and the Council believes that the winners of our Citizenship Awards should also be honoured on this day, however this year, due to the pandemic, this was not possible and instead the award ceremony was held on Zoom ahead of the final Full Council meeting of 2020. In the presence of their supporters and the full Council, the winners were presented with their certificates by the Town Mayor, Cllr Ruth Coleman-Taylor.
A recording of each presentation can be viewed below. PDF files containing the Mayor’s address to each winner can also be viewed using the links below.
