This will probably be my last post before I hand over the Mayoralty in May.
So a few thank yous are in order. To Jessica and Nicola in the office who have guided me and helped me every step of the way. To my fellow Councillors who have advised, challenged and supported me. To my family who have put up with the absence and accompanied me on my journey.
But most of all, thank you to the people of Todmorden; your warmth, humour, commitment and love of our town is moving. Both in the sense that it makes things happen, and in the feeling of togetherness it engenders.
As I write this, the fortnight of celebrations for the Town Hall’s 150th Anniversary has just ended. The Friends of Todmorden Town Hall worked tirelessly to create so many memorable events. I’m sure many of you marvelled at the projection mapping, laughed at the theatrical offerings, were struck by the breadth of musical talent in our town and gained knowledge of the Town Hall’s heritage from the exhibition. I certainly was all of those. I was also delighted by the way all these events brought the community together, particularly at the fantastic Iftar and Community Banquet.
I also want to extend my thanks to the Photographic Society for inviting me to judge their competition, the Town Twinning Association for allowing me to Chair their AGM, and to Clair Priestley for asking me to give out the prizes at this year’s Pride of Todmorden Awards.
A big shout out to everyone who raced the Hot Toddy race, and all those who take part in the eternally brilliant activities of Dementia Friendly Todmorden.
Finally, one last call out to my Mayoral Charities: Music for the Many and the youth projects of Todmorden Hippodrome. I hope you can all join me at my Mayor’s Ball on the 10th May to raise money for their work. Come along, have fun and do help me support these fantastic groups.
