Local Action Groups

There are an impressive quantity of voluntary-led group projects and initiatives based in Todmorden and this is testament to the town’s proactive approach to community and environmental improvement. The goals of many of these groups, whether directly or indirectly, is to address climate-related issues, promoting long-term sustainability through shared efforts and self-sufficiency.

The attitude that underpins many of these varied projects is one of community enrichment, providing further testament to the innate kindness that defines Todmorden as a town. There has never been a more important time for global climate action. What these groups show, however, is how small-scale, local efforts are key to creating a culture where individuals and local communities can be empowered by exercising green choices, through learning, mutual support, and collaboration.

One of the best ways to tackle climate change is to build stronger communities and engage in local efforts. This statement is aptly put by the following quote:

“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.” – Margaret Mead.

There is a list on the Council website of the various local groups and organisations, mainly Todmorden-based, whose actions, either directly or indirectly, tackle the causes and effects of climate change, and improve the environment.

Many of these groups are calling out for volunteers to join them in their collective efforts to improve the welfare of individuals, the community and our environment. We as a town council, therefore, encourage anyone who wishes to make a positive difference, to consider joining and supporting their local voluntary groups.

They can be found on the voluntary organisations page of this website.
