About Todmorden

Todmorden is a market town in the Upper Calder Valley in Calderdale, West Yorkshire, England. It is about 17 miles from Manchester and has a population of just over 15,000 people. Todmorden is at the confluence of three steep-sided Pennine valleys and is surrounded by moorlands with outcrops of sandblasted gritstone.

What’s so good about Todmorden?

Well, there are free vegetables and herbs everywhere – on verges, on scraps of land and even outside the police station. The Town’s Incredible Edible project is trying to make the town self-sufficient in food! But even without the kale, this former Yorkshire mill town’s a stirring place, pinched by Pennine hills, spread liberally with lovely stone architecture and lived in by warm, community-minded people. If you’re not green-fingered, there are performances, musicals and concerts to attend, folk festivals and choral societies to find voice and carnivals to organise.
