The 2026-2027 Mayor of Todmorden is

Councillor Mary Carrigan

Not originally from Todmorden, Mary moved to the Town 13 years ago, with her husband Pete (who has sadly since passed). Choosing to move North to be nearer their eldest son studying at University, they were drawn to the charm and personality of Todmorden, it’s magnificient buildings, scientific and industrial history, breathtaking scenery, and cultural life, of which Mary is heavily invovled in.

Mary has a lengthy history in education (44 years to be exact) originally working as a Maths teacher in Essex, East London and Hertfordshire. She then became a senior advisor on Maths education for the local authority.

She is a recognisable face in local schools, serving as Governor at Todmorden High School, Castle Hill and North Halifax Grammar School. Mary is passionate about education, and for all children to be treated fairly and seen as equals.

Since moving to Todmorden Mary has become an active and valuable member of the community and is/ has been invovled in many groups within the Town such as the Bowls Club and the Three Valleys Gospel Choir, and has been a Town Councillor since 2014.

To Mary, Todmorden is not just the place she chose to retire, it’s her home, community and a place filled with many people and things she truly loves. She is determined to learn even more about Todmorden in her year as Mayor, and looks forward to meeting as many people and hearing as many stories as possible.

The Deputy Mayor for 2026-2027 is

Councillor Tony Greenwood.

Tony has previously served as Mayor of Todmorden twice himself, and as Deputy Mayor 5 times, so he is well versed in the role and looks forward to assisting Cllr Mary Carrigan in her duties as Mayor for 2026-27.
