Todmorden’s festive light display will have new lights for 2021 designed by local children as part of a competition. All of our local school’s have recently been contacted with details of the competition.
Many may have notcied that in 2020 the popular Christmas lights designed by Todmorden school children were not on display, unfortunately, given their considerable age, most of those lights are now past their by date. With a brand new scheme of lights in place, Todmorden Town Council has decided to run a competition with all of the schools in Todmorden, to design in total, eight new displays. These new displays will go up next Christmas when they will be positioned on the long Market Hall wall facing Bramsche Square.
Joint Leader of Todmorden Town Council Cllr Mary Carrigan said “We would have loved to have this in place for this year, but we simply did not have enough time to run a schools competition and put in place the new scheme. Working with our eight schools, we look forward to receiving ten designs per school from which we will select one for each school to be made up into a real display.”
The old children’s displays have been kept and will be looked at to see if still safe to use, if they are deemed safe there may be a chance that they could be reunited with their orginal designers. If you are the parent of a child who designed one of the original lights please email Colin Hill to discuss this possibility – [email protected]
