Todmorden Town Council has agreed a budget of £513,137 for the 2026/27 financial year.  The effect on individual households remains reasonable. A Band D property will see an increase of approximately 21p a week (£10.80 per year), while the most common property type in Todmorden, Band A, will see an annual rise of around 14p a week (£7.20 per year). Based on the current tax base, this represents an estimated 12% increase, with the exact figure to be confirmed when updated data is released by Calderdale Metropolitan Borough Council.

This budget reflects the Council’s commitment to taking on more services and investing in facilities that have long-term benefits for the community.  Over the past year, Todmorden Town Council has assumed responsibility for several key assets and projects to ensure they are preserved, improved and sustainably managed for future generations.

Among the responsibilities now being delivered directly by the Council are the town’s four bowling greens, which have been brought under unified management to safeguard these important recreational spaces. The Council is also overseeing the construction of the new Pavilion in Centre Vale Park, which will provide modern facilities for local groups, events, and visitors, and will be managed and maintained by the Town Council once completed.

Work is also progressing on the full refurbishment of the Centre Vale Park bandstand, a much-loved local landmark. When reopened, the restored bandstand will once again provide a focal point for concerts and community gatherings. In addition, the Council has supported the creation of the new Vale Community Garden (in Cornholme), developed in partnership with residents to enhance local green space and encourage community activity.

The Council also supports the two main foodbanks within Todmorden, Todmorden in Bloom, and many more community groups who apply for grants each year.

The agreed budget ensures that Todmorden Town Council can continue to take on and deliver more local services at a time when many towns are facing reductions in support. Importantly, this budget enables the Town Council to maintain a fully balanced budget while continuing to invest in the town’s assets and community projects. The Council remains committed to providing high-quality amenities, supporting community wellbeing, and investing responsibly in projects that strengthen the town’s infrastructure and character.

Cllr S Press, Mayor of Todmorden, said: “Todmorden Town Council is proud to continue increasing the services we provide for local residents. This budget allows us to maintain and expand community assets, invest in improvements, and support local groups—all for a small annual increase for most households. We remain committed to delivering value, transparency, and positive outcomes for our town and supporting many vulnerable groups within Todmorden.”
